Listening to God's Word

Faith is defined in the dictionary as a firm belief in something for which there is no proof; complete trust.

You need only turn to Hebrews 11:1 for the best biblical definition:  "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen."

We need to have faith in God's word, that He is with us and, if we believe with all our hearts and all our souls, then He will provide for us.  And part of that faith is trusting in God's provision.  We always seem to want to be in control of what we want to happen, but God knows all so He can have a better plan.  What would have happened if Noah did not have faith enough to build that ark?

Abraham showed such faith - In their old age, God blessed Abraham and Sarah with a son, their first.  Then God asked an unthinkable thing of Abraham - to sacrifice his son Isaac to the Lord.  And even more unthinkable, Abraham agreed to do it!  Abraham had faith - he had faith that God could do wondrous things and that God would keep his word.  In Hebrews 11:19 it states that Abraham "considered the fact that God is able even to raise someone from the dead".  So Abraham put his faith, his complete trust, in God.  God realized that Abraham truly had faith and trust in Him, so He stopped Abraham right as he was about to sacrifice Isaac.  What an act of faith!

So, we need to have complete trust in God's word and His word is found in the scriptures.  According to 2 Timothy 3:16, "All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness".  We only need look to God for answers to our own problems and situations!

About.com has a page that lists out faith-building bible verses for a list of challenges we might face in our lives.  I have copied the list for our use (but at the end I will also provide the link for you).  I hope you find some guidance here:
